Kohuwa Homestay is located close to the breathtaking Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, one of Assam’s most pristine wildlife destinations, known for its vast grasslands, wetlands, and riverine forests shaped by the Brahmaputra and Lohit rivers. Spend quiet moments in our serene gardens, take leisurely walks, observe vibrant local birdlife, or simply sit back and enjoy the beauty of the landscape.
Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, located in the easternmost part of Assam, is one of India’s most pristine and biodiverse protected areas. Spread across the floodplains of the Brahmaputra and Lohit rivers, this national park is known for its vast grasslands, dense forests, wetlands, and riverine ecosystems. Frequent flooding has shaped its unique landscape, making it a haven for rare and endangered species.
The park is especially famous for its rich birdlife and is recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA). It is home to over 500 species of birds, including several rare and migratory species. Birdwatchers can spot birds such as the White-winged Duck, Black-breasted Parrotbill, Marsh Babbler, Greater Adjutant Stork, and a variety of kingfishers, herons, egrets, and raptors. During winter, the park becomes a seasonal refuge for numerous migratory birds from Central Asia and beyond.
Dibru-Saikhowa is also known for its unique mammals, including the Feral Horses, which are found nowhere else in India. Other mammals include Asian Elephants, Royal Bengal Tigers, Leopards, Clouded Leopards, Hoolock Gibbons, Capped Langurs, Wild Boars, and Gangetic River Dolphins in the surrounding waterways.
The park’s wetlands support a rich aquatic ecosystem, with diverse species of fish, amphibians, and reptiles. Its grasslands and forests are dominated by tall elephant grass, cane brakes, and semi-evergreen vegetation, providing ideal habitats for wildlife and contributing to the park’s ecological importance.
Beyond wildlife, Dibru-Saikhowa offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience untouched nature, serene river landscapes, and traditional village life around the park. Whether for birdwatching, nature photography, or quiet exploration, the park stands as a symbol of Assam’s natural richness and conservation heritage.
